TCBSBM Board Members
The following Board Members have been elected to the board for 2008-2010 school year.
There are five elected officials for this organization. Each member of the board will fulfill a
two year term and abide by the bylaws set by the organization.

Ms. JOSIE SMITH-WRIGHT was first elected to the Gonzales ISD Board of
School Trustees in 2003. While serving on the Board she has gained her
Master School Board Trustee Certification and TASB-ISD Level 1 Certification.
Smith-Wright attended Texas A&I in Kingsville and Durham Business College.
Also serving on the local Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and the Gonzales
School Trustees in 2003. While serving on the Board she has gained her
Master School Board Trustee Certification and TASB-ISD Level 1 Certification.

County Tax Appraisal District Board of Directors. Ms. Smith-Wright is employed by The Tax
Place and is a graduate of the Gonzales ISD.

Dr. ALTON SMITH was appointed as a Trustee in December, 2005 and
subsequently elected in May, 2006. He currently serves as the Assistant
Secretary. He is active on many community boards (Aldine Scholarship
Foundation, Greater Inwood Partnership, Inwood Community Outreach
Program, Acres Homes Community Development Corporation, etc.) and is
active in many social organizations. He is also a Master Trustee.

Lew Blackburn, Dallas ISD Trustee was elected to the TCBSBM Board during the
2008 Annual Board Meeting.

Ted Beard was elected to the Texas Caucus of Black School Board Members at
Board for 9 years. He was appointed to the Risk Management Fund Board in
November 2007.
Beard serves as a Service Representative for the Social Security Administration
Board for 9 years. He was appointed to the Risk Management Fund Board in

Beard serves as a Service Representative for the Social Security Administration
and a Sergeant Major in the U.S. Army Reserve. He served in both Desert Storm and Iraqi
Freedom Operations. He has also served as a TASB Delegate, representing Longview ISD,
for 4 years at the TASB/TASA Delegate Assembly.
He and his wife Rosalind are the parents of three sons and two daughters.

Smith holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Sam Houston State University. He
has Master's Degrees in Business Administration, School Counseling, and School Baton
Rouge, La.
Smith is employed by Klein ISD as Assistant Director Human Resources. He is also an
Adjunct Professor at Sam Houston State University.
